When I first started writing stories I asked my mom and bro to do the artwork for my stories. I found I didn’t like thier work and decided to try it myseld. I had the same trouble you did with the animals. Here are the things an old art teacher told me about cartoons.

a.) start by observing something or someone real. Like a celebrity or a dog or something.

b.) draw the item, but exagerate the things that make it unique.
–(i.e.) if the person has curly hair, make it curlier, if they wear earings make them a bit bigger. If they have a big nose make it bigger. the same rule applies to animals and inanimate objects. practice drawing the real thing, then use basic lines and curves with exagerations.

c.) keep at it. You won’t get it overnight, Art is a skill it takes practice and lots of patience.

Before you can begin cartooning you need to be able to draw realistic things -then distort them to be drawn easier or faster. You also should watch alot of cartoons and look at alot of comic books and "study" the art form. Hayao miyazaki’s works, Disney, Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, old cartoons are the best, you can watch alot of them on youtube.com . for drawing animals there are lots of books you can buy or get from the library.
http://www.cartoonbrew.com/ this web site has a lot of links and things about cartoon and animation that should help. Also looking at photographs of animals as a reference . For the lion king the studio brought in lions for animators to study from. You can go to your local zoo too. -good luck

u can first pick a cartoon u wanna draw print it out
first trace it
then try to draw it yourself
then u can mayb draw ur own

gotta learn the basics in dimensions, perpectives, and proportions… you can probably find some online tutorial for that…
